Based on an initiative by Rakita, traffic safety lectures were held in September at the beginning of a new school year for children from lower grades of primary schools in the villages of Brestovac, Metovnica and Slatina.
The initiative for education was driven partly due to the increased presence of passenger and freight vehicles, as well as machinery working on the construction of the exploration decline in the area.
Rakita is dedicated to the safe and successful development of the Cukaru Peki Project. Cooperation with local communities and achieving positive long-term sustainable impacts in these communities is essential.
During the work on the construction of the exploration decline, Rakita undertook necessary measures to protect people and the environment in accordance with the standards of Serbia and international standards.
The students had the opportunity to get to know the rules of traffic, and Rakita donated a safety set of reflective bags and vests to each student.
“Having in mind that child safety comes first, the school certainly fully supported this initiative by Rakita. Student safety in traffic ranks very highly for schools in these villages, because our buildings are located right next to a busy transport route. This lecture is that much more useful, and we believe the students will realize that they, as pedestrians, are also equal participants in traffic and therefore have certain obligations and responsibilities”, said Aleksandar Vlahović, Principal of PS “Stanoje Miljković” in Brestovac.
The safety lecture was attended by 172 students from the three villages.
